Bobotie is a traditional dish with dutch origns. Introduced through the Cape Malay community, this popular dish spread to other parts of Africa and now the world. It might sound a bit unusual if you aren’t familiar with dutch curries – often flavoured with curry powder and sweetened with fruit. This is in contrast with Indian curries, which are more often flavoured with whole spices and served in a sauce enriched by nuts or yogurt. This hearty beef stew is the perfect combination of rustic comfort food and refined savoury flavours. Leaning heavily on pantry staples for the seasoning and topping, the heart of this meal is in it’s slowly simmered filling paired with fluffy dumplings that soak up all the delicious sauce. Pumpkin Cannelloni is a beloved staple in our house. This isn’t your normal spinach and ricotta cannelloni. Set atop a bed of beef mince and onions, these filled noodle tubes are baked in a deliciously rich pumpkin sauce. It’s a classic date night dish and makes plenty of leftovers that are great for weeknight dinners or prepped lunches as well.
