Nourishing Rice Pudding
This nourishing rice pudding recipe makes an excellent snack, dessert or sweet breakfast choice. Specifically designed on my quest to research and develop combinations of traditional comforting favourites with ayuvedic principles to balance vata dosha. These principles are especially helpful for aiding with digestion, supporting mental wellbeing and nourishing the body. There isn’t anything particularly difficult to access in this recipe and this nourishing rice pudding recipe contains no buzz word superfood ingredients. It’s well worth making as a gesture of love to share with friends or for yourself. The warm spices and creamy textures are comforting and the pudding leaves you feeling satisfied without being too dense or heavy.…

Maca Powder, Apple & Cacao Nib Muffins
These delicious Apple Muffins use some lesser known ingredients including Maca Powder and Cacao Nib for a nutritious and flavoursome boost. Cacao Nibs are made from dried and fermented bits of the cocoa bean. Used here as a crunchy textural replacement for chocolate chips, rich in iron and magnesium. Maca Powder is a traditional peruvian powder adding a nutty, caramelized flavour. There are a long list of reported health benefits, especially linked to hormonal health and energy production. Unfortunately the regular dose required is a fair bit higher than you would get from a single muffin. If you’re interested in reading more about Maca Powder, some of the claimed health…

Braised Pork with Risoni & Feta
Hirino Yiouvetsi Braised Pork in a rich tomato sauce, studded with hot melting cheese and perfectly cooked pasta. It doesn’t get much simpler or more delicious than this. Deceptively easy, it tastes a lot more complex than you would expect given the short list of ingredients. Even the fussiest eaters are likely to give this a go, after all – it’s mostly pasta and cheese. The cinnamon twist is unexpectedly savory and a very classic Greek flavour with tomato and meat. The pork can be left in whole chunks or shredded prior to adding the pasta and cheese. Either way, the braising will ensure the meat is meltingly tender. Served…

Oat Slice Cookies
Roughly 12 months ago we received a free sample of Oat Slice Cookies with our weekly grocery shop. They were tasty and convenient, though nothing particularly nutritious at roughly 150 calories from mostly carbs and fat. A box of 4 individually wrapped snacks retailed for a whopping $5.50. The more I thought about it, the more it annoyed me. Of course there is always a cost for convenience, but these were simple oat cookies. I want to encourage you to give these ago, not just to cut a few dollars off your grocery bill, but also to enjoy the process, eat a more delicious cookie and waste a bit less…

Bircher-Style Oats
This boosted breakfast oat dish is the delicious sister of classic overnight oats. Not only can you prepare this meal in batches, it also freezes surprisingly well into individual portions. Instead of prepping each bowl of oats the night before – you can prep a batch, portion and freeze. The night before you need it, all you have to do is transfer a container into the fridge to defrost. I promise it all comes together just the same as long as you freeze immediately after mixing. This method is also helpful in controlling portion sizes. The issue with regular Bircher Muesli is that it’s really only best overnight. Texture degrades…
